3,4-Dihydroxyphenylacetic acid (DHAA, synthesized, C8H8O4, purity: 98 %) and streptozotocin (STZ) were purchased from Shanghai Yuanye Biotechnology Co., Ltd. (Shanghai, China). The assay kits used for the measurement of malondialdehyde (MDA), glutathione (GSH), and total superoxide dismutase (T-SOD) were purchased from Nanjing Jiancheng Bioengineering Institute (Nanjing, China). Metformin was purchased from Bristol Myers Squibb (Shanghai, China). The enzymelinked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) kit for measuring insulin and LPS were provided by Shanghai Enzyme-linked Biotechnology Co., Ltd (Shanghai, China), and the ELISA kit for interleukin-6 (IL-6) and interleukin-10 (IL-10) was purchased from Shanghai Hengyuan Biological Technology (Shanghai, China).
